Miss Donna Came Back For Story-Time On Friday!

We Made Dinosaur Models And Decided To Display Them In A Museum

A Huge Interest In Dinosaurs In Room 106

As mentioned in a previous post, the interest in dinsosaurs came about when we had our "Hospital"
and we were learning about x-rays, bones, and had Mrs. Jackson in to talk about working with
x-rays.  All of the children are fascinated by dinosaurs and they are learning so many interesting facts!

Hockey Day Was Awesome! Time To Vote On A New Jewel Jar Prize!

We celebrated "Hockey Day" on Thursday, March 12th. We wore jerseys and enjoyed bonus time in the small gym. The children were divided into teams in a number of ways: JK boys vs. JK girls, SK boys vs. SK girls, etc. Some of our gr. 7/8 Buddies joined us to play as well!

Once again, the children had many fantastic ideas for our next prize! It won't belong until we are enjoying ice-cream!

The Leprechaun Returned - Again!

We were very surprised to see that the Leprechaun made another visit to our classroom!
In his final letter below, it says that he felt sorry for taking the children's gold and he decided to
return their coins!

St. Patrick's Day Activities

Since the leprechaun bug caught on so quickly in our classroom we added some other activities to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Have fun on the 17th! Happy March Break!

He Was A Messy Fellow!

The children's shoes all ended up in the recycling bin, he left footprints everywhere, toppled chairs and baskets, etc. It was incredibly exciting to return from outdoor play and discover all of this!

The Leprechaun Returned During Recess!

The Leprechaun Came Overnight!

You will see in the leprechaun's note that he left stones for the students.  As it turned out the stones had coins in them.  We found out when one of the students dropped the stone and it broke! We decided to do experiments with the stones to reveal more coins!  We tried water and vinegar solutions.

Signs Inviting The Leprechaun To Come Get Our Gold!

The children made gold coins with plasticine and modelling clay to entice the leprechaun into their traps. They posted them all over the school!

Trying To Trap A Leprechaun!

One of the students brought in a Leprechaun trap he made at home. It didn't take long until many students wanted to make their own traps! Thanks for sending in materials. The children had so much fun building and fine-tuning their tricky creations!

Thanks For The Fruit!

The SK students were asked to bring in 1 piece if fruit recently. We were working on a poem about fruit and we decided it would be a good idea to make fruit salad! What a fun project with a tasty end result. Of course, we danced to the Fruit Salad song by the Wiggles too!

Learning about Bones Lead Into An Interest In Dinosaurs

The children are very excited to investigate this topic.  We are fortunate to have a couple of dinosaur experts in Room 106!

The Indian Creek Hospital

This centre was enjoyed by all! The topic of bones lead into some discussions about dinosaurs/fossils.  A student brought in a book about dinsosaurs recently and that very day a group of boys wanted to look at the book and make pictures of the dinsosaurs.  This has sparked a real interest in dinosaurs in Room 106.  Our study of bones has taken a new direction!

X-Rays Are Exciting!

Mrs. Jackson was kind enough to come back to our classroom again this year. She brought a really neat skeleton and lots of x-rays. We used our light table to examine the x-rays and she was able to tell us all about the bones shown in the various x-rays. Thanks so much Mrs. Jackson!

We followed up this great presentation with some

x-ray crafts and activities.

Our Author Study: Mo Willems

You likely heard a lot of talk about a pigeon at your homes! This hilarious pigeon is Mo Willem's main character in one of his series of books. We enjoyed his "Knuffle Bunny" books as well.  We created 2 class books based on these incredible book series.  They are being circulated through the class.
Several of the children were so taken with the Pigeon character that they began writing their own books about him.  Their topics were very creative.  Several of them included a second main character as a Leprechaun. We are very proud of our authors and illustrators in Room 106.

We Enjoyed All 8 Of Our Dance Classes!

We learned a lot of great dance skills and choreography.  It was exciting watching the children learn new steps to add on to their routine to "Firework". We are pleased to have booked 6 additional dance lessons with PURE beginning in April. A note will be sent home soon.

Saving Tabs For Wheelchairs

Thanks to Claire for bringing in a huge bag of pop tabs!

More Experiments and Creative Activities With Our "Old Markers"

Dr. Morand Came To talk To The Students

Dr. Morand's visit was incredible.  The children had so many questions about all of the medical equipment they have been playing with in our Hospital Centre.  They were also thrilled to see how casts are made, use a stethoscope, and see a model of a human heart.
Thanks so much, Dr. Morand!

Trying Out The Medical Equipment And Clothing

Our New Hospital Centre

The hospital centre came to be after one of our students had surgery.

Our Arena Centre

This was a very popular centre in our classroom.  The students created the design of the arena floor and loved putting on jerseys, goalie masks, etc. to play in the arena.  Math had a role to play in this centre as our scorekeeper tallied goals on a scoresheet.
